Our Story

I'm Matt Shurtleff, but your students will call me Dr. Krevane - and yes, I'm that slightly crazy Utah science teacher who's been getting paid to make epic messes for nearly 20 years! (Best. Job. Ever.)

Back in 2012, I founded Evil Scientist Academy in Kaysville, Utah because apparently one classroom of chaos wasn't enough for me. Since then, we've expanded to several locations across the Wasatch Front, recruiting thousands of kids into our league of junior mad scientists.

Imagine transforming your school into a mad scientist's laboratory for 45 minutes...
(I know, I know - what could go wrong, right?!)
I specialize in science assemblies for elementary schools where the kids have WAY more fun than they're supposed to in school.

Here's what happens when Dr. Krevane takes over your school...

Picture this: Your students sit in complete silence (yes, even the chatty ones!), eyes glued to a giant flask of colorful liquid. The whole audience counts down "3, 2, 1..." and I add the catalyst. Suddenly, BOOM! A spectacular tower of foam erupts over 10 feet high and all the kids are cheering!

Here's what your students will experience:

Fog-Filled Dry Ice Bubbles: I turn volunteers into my assistants with "bubble hats" and clean their faces with fog while everyone erupts in laughter!

Vortex Cannon Mayhem: Time to test my aim! Fog rings knock cups clean off volunteers' heads - the kids love it!

Elephant Toothpaste Finale: With all the kids counting down, I pour the catalyst and WHOOSH - a towering eruption of foam shoots over 10 feet high! (Yes, it's the same reaction Mark Rober made famous!)

Your elementary school students aren't just watching experiments - they're experiencing real chemical reactions in the most ridiculously fun way possible!

4 Reasons This Science Assembly
Will Have Your Students Begging for More

Want a science assembly that'll have your kids racing home to tell their parents about school? (Yes, really!)

I totally understand - you need something genuinely educational AND engaging.

Here are four reasons this assembly will have your students begging for more science:

1. Keeps Kids Riveted

Massive bubbles that glow and expand! Vortex cannons that shoot fog rings across the room!

Trust me, even your most fidgety students will be glued to their seats trying to figure out what crazy thing happens next.

These are experiments kids talk about for months!

2. Your Students Become My Lab Assistants

This isn't your typical sit-and-listen school assembly - I need volunteers to participate in my organized chaos!

Kids volunteer to help with experiments on stage while everyone else becomes my official countdown crew and explosion celebration committee.

When kids are laughing, participating, and having a blast, nobody realizes they're learning serious science!

3. Your Local Utah Science Guy
= Zero Extra Fees

I'm your local Utah science teacher who shows up, does amazing science, and goes home to my own house. No hotel bills, no flight costs, no crew expenses - just me, my experiments, and a really fun 45 minutes for your students!

You get quality science education without the out-of-state markup, and your budget stays happy.

4. Zero Hassle for Maximum Fun

I know you're already juggling a million things, so this is how it works.

I show up with everything - safety gear, all the crazy experiments, even my own extension cords. You just point me toward your space and you're done.

The kids have an incredible time, you look great for bringing fun science to school, and you didn't have to stress about any of the details.

My Secret G.I.F.T. to Making Science Stick

Here's what makes this assembly genuinely educational instead of just entertaining - I teach students my G.I.F.T. method throughout the assembly, which translates Utah's Science and Engineering (SEEd) Practices into kid-friendly language they'll remember and use:

Get Curious ❓ Students naturally begin asking questions about the surprising phenomena they experience in this assembly.

Investigate 🔍 Kids don't just watch - they help conduct the experiments and test their ideas.

Figure Out 💡 After a series of awesome experiments, students work together to understand what happened and why.

Teach It 📣 Kids share what they learned with each other. When they can teach it, they really understand it.

Students walk away with an easy-to-follow method they can use anywhere to figure things out like real scientists, and teachers love seeing kids return to class familiar with these essential practices.

If your kids aren't absolutely buzzing with excitement after this assembly, you get your money back plus an extra $100. Never had to pay it out yet - the kids always love it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade levels work best?

These assemblies are perfect for K-6 students!

For the best results, I recommend two separate shows - one for younger elementary (K-2) and one for upper elementary (3-6) the same day.

I've created two versions of the assembly with grade-level appropriate explanations so everyone stays engaged.

How does this connect to Utah curriculum standards?

Your teachers will love this - every experiment directly supports Utah Science & Engineering (SEEd) standards!  I focus on the core scientific practices that every grade level uses, but I make them come alive through hands-on experiments.

Plus, you get a teacher's guide full of fun follow-up activities.
